Ground Screws - Commercial

Ground screws are a budget-friendly solution for building foundations for residential buildings and extensions. The stability and load-bearing capacity of this foundation solution is just the same as that of a classic concrete foundation. However, ground screws have the advantage of being very environmentally-friendly and can be installed as part of a streamlined project process. This primarily means that economical and safe deep foundations can be built on a poor subsoil or on construction sites where the load-bearing layer is several metres down.

Traditionally, garden structures are built onto concrete or concrete slab bases. There are several things to consider with this method:

The Mess

Laying a concrete base requires the topsoil to be removed either to another part of the garden or removed from site altogether. Putting aside the associated costs, this creates a great deal of mess in the garden. Groundscrews are a very clean way to create a base for your shed.

The Rot

Where a shed floor sits in contact with a concrete base, that’s where it is going to rot first. Groundscrews, combined with a pressure treated floor frame, will keep your shed floor up, off the ground, creating a slight air gap underneath. The shed floor is never in contact with the ground and even if the timber does get wet, air can get around it to dry it out.

The Time

Concrete bases take a great deal of time to create. Once installed, they take days, sometimes weeks, to “go off” before they can be used. Groundscrews are fast to install and once installed, they are instantly loadable. We work in association with Gorilla Sheds (and other garden building companies) and can sometime install the base in the morning whilst they install your new shed or summerhouse the very same afternoon.

The Stability

To ensure your concrete base is stable, it needs to be installed onto the subsoil. Most concrete base companies don’t do this, they might take off the turf but the concrete gets laid onto the topsoil which is far more prone to slippage, settlement, heaving, or erosion than subsoil is. This is why many concrete bases will move or break up over time. Groundscrews go right through the topsoil and into the subsoil. They go into the ground deeper than the accepted frost level experienced in the U.K., even in the harshest winters. Groundscrews are extremely rarely susceptible to the same movement problems that commonly cause issues with concrete or slab bases.

The Drainage

Over the last few years our winters seem to have got wetter with gardens becoming a sodden mess of mud. Concrete or slab bases contribute to these problems by capping the ground and reducing the drainage. Groundscrews don’t cap the ground, they don’t reduce the drainage capabilities of your garden. Also, as previously stated, they’ll keep your shed floor up, out of the water and help to prolong the life of your shed floor.

Solar Structures

Ground screws offer a budget-friendly option for constructing foundations for residential buildings and additions. This foundation solution provides equal stability and weight-bearing capabilities as concrete foundations but with the added advantage of being eco-friendly and having a more streamlined installation process. This makes ground screws a suitable choice for building secure deep foundations in locations with subpar subsoil or where the load-bearing layer is situated several meters down.

Domestic Buildings & Extensions

Ground screws are a cost-effective solution for residential building foundations and extensions. Unlike traditional concrete foundations, ground screws provide the same stability and load-bearing capacity while also being environmentally friendly and requiring a simplified installation process. This makes them ideal for constructing secure deep foundations in areas with weak subsoil or when the load-bearing layer is located at a deeper level.

Kinder to the environment.

Our ground screws are more efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional methods, and they are also usually a more cost-effective option than concrete. If you're looking for a reliable, affordable screw base installation company, look no further than us!
