About Us
ScrewBase was founded in 2020, originally partnering with Gorilla Sheds and Timber Garden Products Ltd, one of the leading bespoke Shed manufacturing and installation companies in Essex and further afield. Since then we have worked with many companies to provide them with groundscrew bases.
Our ground screw installation team is fully trained in using the best First Base ground screws, to ensure that your build or project will stand the test of time. In addition, we can advise on the design and construction of timber and/or lightweight metal floor frames. We can install ground screws in most situations, especially if your garden is on a slope, or hard to access. Most ground screws can be installed with minimal disturbance to the local environment and with only a few specialised tools.

Who are we?
Richard Lincoln is one of the directors of Screwbase Ltd, also Timber Garden Products Ltd. In 2020, when the Covid crisis broke out there were massive supply chain issues for many things, including timber. Faced with a shortage of supply, TGPL had to find other ways to keep the employees busy. Richard has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and installing garden sheds, workshops, summerhouses, and bespoke garden buildings. He started looking at diversifying into the growing home office and garden room sector but he saw one big issue that didn’t sit well with him.
When a shed is installed, they generally go onto a concrete base. The same method is used for garden rooms and home offices. However, a good-sized shed would cost in the region of 10%–20% of the cost of a garden room. When a shed is installed onto a concrete base, rainwater will soak into the floor timbers and rot them. This happens over the course of 15–20 years and is accepted as part and parcel of shed ownership. After all, at today’s prices (October 2022) a 10 x 8 shed will cost about £1,300, that’s less than £100 per year or £2 a week.

However, garden rooms and home offices cost a lot more than sheds do but they still suffer from the same problem. 15–20 years after the garden room has been installed the floor is rotting. When a garden room costs upwards of £15,000 this really isn’t an acceptable lifespan.
Richard started looking around at different base systems that could be used instead of a massive concrete pad to get around this problem. That’s when he found out about ground screws. He had never seen them before but he was blown away by the system, it had so many advantages over concrete or slabs. He watched many, many videos, read just as much literature, gaining as much information as he could about the methods, limits, capabilities, and longevity of the system. After over 30 years in the garden building industry, he only had one question: Why haven’t we been using this on all our installations?
So he began talking to suppliers, nearly all of them. The majority were only interested in how much the projected order values would be. Others were just suppliers and had no expertise or experience of the installation of the system. One supplier, when asked questions, just made up the answers as he went along. Eventually Richard found First Base and it very quickly became obvious that they not only had the experience he needed to learn from, but also supplied quality ground screws that meet, and sometimes exceed, all the necessary British and European standards.
Since then Screwbase Ltd has been created. We started by installing ground screws for Timber Garden Products Ltd and Gorilla Sheds, now we’re installing ground screws for anyone who needs them!
