Case Study: Rochford alms houses
The project was for the Rochford Charities who are responsible for the running and management of Lord Ryche’s Alms Houses in Rochford, 6 cottages that were built in the 16th century as one room accommodation and converted to 6 one bedroom cottages in the 1990’s.
The requirement is for bases for 6 no. 6x4 sheds.
The Rochford Charities had already been quoted for the shed bases to be provided as traditional concrete slabs but they had specific concerns regarding the mess that the groundworks would create, the disruption that the elderly residents would endure, and the noise that the work would create. In addition, the cost of having the groundscrew bases was also considerably cheaper.
Being based a short distance away in Hawkwell, Screwbase were perfectly placed to assist.
The wooden floor frames were assembled off site to reduce the on-site time. The area that the floor frames were to be placed in had already been marked out by one of the charities trustees prior to the Screwbase team arriving. It was important that bases were installed equally spaced and in a straight line so the team took some time and care to ensure the placement was perfect! The decision was made that, rather than installing the bases all at the same height, we would stagger the height of the frames so that the step up into the sheds would be as low as possible and that they would follow the slope of the ground.
The electric drivers used to install the groundscrews made the installation as quiet as possible, the job was completed in under a day and the final photo shows the finished job with a perfectly clean site.
Kinder to the enviroment.
